    Keeping Christmas Traditions

My mother loved Christmas…. She made it magical. Growing up, we always had 2 trees in the house during the Christmas season. We had a kid’s tree and a mom tree. At the end of November my mom would start planning out how she was going to decorate the house. As a grown-up now, I can remember every tradition so clearly… the advent calendars… the lights… the Christmas baking.  When my kids were born, she added even more traditions. All of the kids got a new Christmas outfit and new PJ’s to wear at the Christmas eve service at church and on Christmas day. Typically, it was some sort of plaid…

    Going Natural

Lisa and I are a bit product obsessed. We admit it. Anyone who knows us will tell you that we love trying out different skincare/makeup. Always on the hunt for ‘the best’ out there. Not going to lie, we have tried everything from the highly toxic to the totally natural. Since losing our mom to a cancer that we believe was caused by a toxic product she regularly used, we have become much more aware of what we put on our skin. I’m not saying we have made that switch completely, but at least now we think about it and try to be informed about what we are using. When…

    Consignment Store Shopping

I love consignment clothing shopping! I have been a shopper and a consigner for about 22 years. My introduction to consignment, thrifting or second-hand shopping began when I started working in broadcast sales. I worked with a woman who gave me “style envy” because she was dressed so sharp. I would comment on her wardrobe and she would politely reply with a simple thank you. My husband and I had just started our careers so we had limited income…especially for clothing.  One day, I made a passing comment to her about her wardrobe and how one day I would love to dress like her. She said, “Lisa come with me”, and…

    Sweet and Spicy Pumpkin Seeds

There are so many things that I love about fall, but anything pumpkin has to be at the top of my list. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice lattes and of course, roasted pumpkin seeds.  I remember the first time I was introduced to pumpkin seeds, I cannot say I was a huge fan. My mom had taken me to see a nutritionist to see if they could help me alleviate some of the symptoms I was having with my Lupus. One of the first suggestions that she gave me was to incorporate pumpkin seeds in to my diet. I did this for about a day then decided maybe I could live…

    The Cost of Avoidance

This week we are so excited to have guest writer Kristel Cimoszko! Kristel is the creative mind behind Best Life In A Box. Kristel is a single mother of 4 kids ages 19,16,13 and 11. Kristel has been inspired by her own personal struggles and spends time sharing her own realizations with others as a way of giving back.  We just love what she has to say and know you will find her truly valuable. I remember the day that I made the decision to accept being wrong. Although it seems like something so insignificant today, I would say that that day paved way for who I would eventually become.…

The Working Moms Guide to Hosting Thanksgiving

Well, I survived Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving is my absolute favorite holiday. I love the food, the colours, the cozy weather and just setting time aside to hang out with family.  I have always said Thanksgiving was my favorite holiday but never really thought through why until the other day when I had an ‘ah- ha’. The reason I like Thanksgiving so much is that there is no buying presents involved. Don’t get me wrong, I like buying presents for people, but would rather just do it if I see something someone might like, and not just because it is a particular holiday. I also find that the holidays that focus on…

When Your Kid Leaves the Nest

A few weeks ago, I dropped my oldest son off to College to play baseball and hopefully get an education as well😉.  It was something he had worked very hard for. He sacrificed a lot of his high school social time, and dealt with a lot of unforeseen circumstances to get himself there. As parents we walked through it all with him, we did whatever we could to facilitate him achieving his goal of obtaining a baseball scholarship to a school in the US. We worked hard with him and for him, we were so proud of him when he got the offer!  The week before I took him I…
